Stephen is rated as one of the top 3 lecturers at Europe's top Business Schools. He has a reputation of taking complex management concepts and being able to distil them down, into highly informative and fun lectures - often using "storytelling" techniques.
Unusually, for an academic, he has actually has spent most of his working life in real business and still runs his own, highly successful, Project Management Company. His attitude is "if you haven't done it - you shouldn't be teaching it!"
After graduating Stephen was lucky enough to start work in the North Sea oil business, when it was at its height. He spent seven happy years "spending millions of pounds of other people's money on big boys Lego" and loved every moment of it. During this time, he learnt how to lead and motivate teams in high pressure (and sometimes dangerous situations) and was quickly identified as a high flyer.
At 29, he was packed off by his company, to undertake an MBA and to be taught the black art of "Management". Whilst there, he was talent spotted by Virgin and was persuaded to negotiate a year away from the Oil Business, in order to be Project Manager, on a madcap scheme hatched by Richard Branson. The idea was to build "a floating Harrods" in the World's biggest four-masted Clipper Ship and then send the whole thing over to the USA, to make millions of dollars out of Americans. Stephen got the job on the basis that he knew nothing about boats, disliked sailing BUT knew how to manage a project!
There followed several years working directly for the CEO of a Multinational as head of strategic programmes where he was initiated into the world of mega projects, mergers, acquisitions and takeovers where he soon realised that sometimes the business world was not as simple as his MBA had taught him.
One morning Stephen decided to face the ultimate challenge and work for the toughest boss in the World - himself! He set up his own Project Management consultancy company and was quickly hired by some of the top International Banks and Law firms - his client list now reads like the FTSE/Dow top 100.
He was then asked by his old MBA school, to come and teach his (rather unorthodox) ideas of Project management to the new generation of business hopefuls. Stephen is an unusual blend of Academic, Businessman and Teller of Tales. In the last year alone he has taught in UK, Holland, Germany, France, Portugal, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia.
